Just about everyone suffers from acne, especially as an adult. Those who don’t are comprised of the blessed few. While many suffer a few years of acne scars and blissfully leave it behind as they move into adulthood, some continue to experience these skin blemishes for many more years. Others experience really bad bouts of acne that can leave behind marks and unsightly scars.
Hampshire Clinic can help. We provide the acne scar treatment that you can trust. We typically recommend a combination approach.
- Skin resurfacing (lasers) to promote healing below the skin.
- Microdermabrasion to improve texture and tone
- Skincare products to help control future breakouts
Fractional C02 Laser Skin Resurfacing is a Carbon Dioxide based laser which has been on the market of aesthetics for decades, and is still a fan favourite
amongst patients, doctors, and medical aestheticians.
The beauty about this technology is that it truly is the most effective, non-invasive method of treating scars, acne scars, stretch marks, superficial
hyperpigmentation, and fine lines with minimal downtime and fewer treatments than other technologies.
Scars and stretch marks occur due to “unorganised collagen” in the dermis. This often happens because of picking at a pimple, a deep cut or stab, or rapid
stretching of the skin through weight gain or a growth spurt. Along with unorganised collagen, scars and stretch marks become more visible over time by
increasing in depression. This happens when the area is not treated right away.
The technology is actually quite simple, and the treatment works using two methods:
* *Heat is absorbed into the collagen level of the dermis, and plumping/reorganising the collagen begins to take place.
* *It burns off dead skin cells, allowing them to slough off, minimising the appearance of depressed scars and stretch marks almost instantly
Pico Laser is an incredibly powerful technology. It uses ultra-short pulses of energy to treat old acne scars. The energy for this device is precisely delivered
though the epidermis and is absorbed by the underlying fibroblasts of the dermis: these are the cells which produce collage. When these cells absorb this
energy, they remodel the collagen matrix of the old acne scar
It can quickly remove stretch marks, tattoos, acne scars, freckles, birthmarks and more.

Generally speaking you can expect your affected skin to require 1 – 2 treatments with a fractional CO2 laser. This is much quicker than with other treatments.
However, keep in mind that depending on the severity of the condition you’d like to treat, the number of sessions can differ from person to person, and for each treatment area.
Before your treatment, we apply a numbing cream on the area to be treated. This takes about 30-45 minutes in most cases. Once the numbing is complete, we use the fractional CO2 laser to create small, intentional holes in the skin.
This happens in sequenced, square sections at a time. We cool the treatment area simultaneously, to help with pain.
The procedure takes about 1 hour. Discomfort can range from mild to moderate, depending on your pain tolerance levels.
Serious complications arising from fractional CO2 laser treatments are rare, when they are performed in a reputable, doctor-led clinic. Dr. Shah is at our clinic on a daily basis. He is available for help, should any issues come up during or after your treatment.
Other than that, there are some more common side effects that can occur with such a deep laser treatment on the skin. These are things we are prepared for at our clinic, and ready to help with. For example: pain, redness, wound healing, swelling or pigment changes.
We will provide you with specific laser treatment pre-op instructions, but one general rule of thumb is to avoid tanning for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment, as skin that has been exposed to UV rays is at a higher risk for complications and discomfort during the procedure.
Laser treatments are the fastest way to remove hyperpigmentation, but it still takes time to see results. Pigment will darken for 1-3 weeks following the treatment, then will begin to fade.
